Q&A on the new RIXEN control system

Recently, we have received a lot of enquiries and questions about our new control system, which we have launched in 2022. Here we have compiled the most frequently asked questions and answers to help you make the right purchase decision.

What are the main advantages of the new control system?

  • Intuitive operation thanks to the newly developed, clear control panel with joystick
  • Minimised susceptibility to faults thanks to the shortest possible distance between the frequency converter in the upper cabinet and the main motor.
  • Increased safety with new functions in accordance with the Machinery Directive
  • More control over personnel and uniform operating standards
  • The quietest and most energy efficient control system on the market
  • Remote maintenance option with global service network
  • Better use of space in the operator station and a cleaner appearance by compressing many technical elements

Which main components are being replaced?

  • Upper control cabinet
  • Lower control cabinet
  • Elevator motor
  • Main motor
  • Control panel

How does the control panel work?

  • The control panel consists of an elevator button, an emergency stop button and the joystick.
  • The joystick controls the pneumatic unit: finish loading (up), preloading (down), catch fork (against the direction of ride) and master (in the direction of ride).
  • The master button (joystick in direction of ride) combines the finish loading and catch fork functions. This simplifies operation and additional safety by preventing double loading.
  • The blue elevator button is used to switch the elevator on and off manually. When the button is held down, the elevator accelerates to the higher speed.

What is the maximum speed?

  • 42 km/h at 22 kW
  • 58 km/h at 30 kW

How do I set the speed?
Two individual fixed speeds can be set in the lower control cabinet next to the operator in the operator station. The potentiometer for the continuous speed adjustment is also located there.

What additional safety features are included?

  • Torque limitation in the elevator motor: Shuts off when resistance is detected, e.g. from foreign objects or fingers.
  • Torque limitation in the main motor: Prevents accidents when the cableway is restarted by detecting if a person is caught in the tow rope.

How energy efficient is the new control?

By changing from 45 kW 4-pole to 22 kW 8-pole, the new motors have a significantly lower power consumption with at least the same torque. Efficiency class IE3 corresponds to current specifications. Efficiency has also been increased, especially by optimising the nominal frequency.

How does remote maintenance work?

Once authorised, the RIXEN team can log into the system, start a detailed analysis and resolve the problem. In many cases, this saves on-site service costs and helps to quickly restore operational capability.

How long does the conversion take?

  • 5 days for RIXEN systems
  • 6-7 days for systems from other manufacturers

Where has the new control system already been successfully installed or retrofitted?

  • Splash Wake Park, Lithuania
  • Mad Bay, Lithuania
  • EXO Sames 64, France
  • Liquid Leisure, Great Britain
  • Wasserski Erfurt, Germany
